About

What is Saffron8?

Simply, it's me, Benjamin Bartlett. However, some projects may require other people to get the project complete; this could be a second shooter, an editor, gaffer or an entire crew. I know a lot of other creatives/technicians and work with them often for projects. So, it doesn't seem to make sense calling it Ben's Camera Services or something like that, because it's sometimes more than just me.

Benjamin Bartlett?

Yep, that's me. I also go by Ben or Benny (trying to get Benji off the ground...). I am a videographer, photographer and filmmaker; a film school graduate and camera aficionado! (Mostly, cameras can be complicated!). I have been making films and videos for 4+ years. I have worked in a variety of shoots/events (one-to-one to feature films), with variety of clients and talent. Please browse my work and get in touch!

You do... Weddings? Commercial? Fictional? Factual?

Yes I do (and more). My industry likes to pigeon-hole us creatives. "You must be a this or that, you can't do it all". Correct, I can't do it all but I do a mixture of things. My skill and passion is in telling stories on a screen (any size screen). And being good at telling stories is essential to making great work regardless if that work is a wedding film, social media content or a music video. At the centre of all my work you will feel something, and follow a story that's worth telling.

What kind of name is
Saffron8?

Bear with me here, kind of a long story... I moved out of the family home at the age of 18. I moved into a small flat with my good friend. We were/are both very creative people but had no where to aim that energy. At the same time, I decided to stop pursuing my childhood dream of being an actor. Meanwhile, over the ten months that I lived in that flat, I worked in a second hand film shop. I borrowed movies from the store nearly every day and managed to get obsessed with Film. While expanding my cinematic knowledge, I wrote plays and films, pitched ideas freely with my friend and grew as a creative. I bought a camera and taught myself how to use it. Soon after my time in this flat with my friend, I decided to pursue my new found passion and go to film school, leading to videography, photography and filmmaking.

The flat was a home of discovery, creative freedom, trial and error, raw passion, developing talent, pushing boundaries. These are the traits that I will continue encouraging in my self, colleagues, collaborators and clients. The flat's address was 8 Saffron Court.
